Day 2 – The warmth and kindness of strangers
After a lovely morning in Amsterdam we covered another 413 miles by train arriving in Nuremberg in the early evening. Navigating a new place and finding our accommodation wasn’t helped by having to walk through a loud tunnel/underpass with lots of traffic and the fact that we were feeling pretty hungry and tired by this point. It was high risk that everything could go downhill from here.
However our AirBnB host came to meet us and gave us the warmest welcome as well as directing us to the biergarten next door for proper local food. Our limited language skills were failing us, but a very friendly and helpful waiter came to our rescue going above and beyond to make us feel welcome.
When the children were feeling tired, hungry and wobbly this was massively appreciated and once we’d filled up on good food and kindness we were restored. It turned out to be a fantastic evening.
The warmth, kindness and connection with others makes such a difference in life and yet so often what we hold up as success are grades, money and status.
In a world which can feel very polarised from the media my children experiencing real life moments and people which are a much more positive reflection of humanity are something I treasure.
My reflection for today is when am I getting distracted by the things we hold up as success rather than the stuff which really matters?
