Day 1 – And we’re off
First stop Amsterdam. (460 miles so far) We’re travelling light on this trip which feels strangely vulnerable.
So many things I typically pack are “just in case,” but when you’re carrying everything to multiple destinations that’s a challenge – what did we really need. I do like to be prepared and it often comes in handy – especially when you have children – Need a snack? Plaster? Something to do? You’re cold? You’re feeling wobbly? A bird pooed on you? I’ve usually got something helpful to hand.
However I wonder whether some of my “Just in case” planning is rooted in fear or anxiety rather than readiness for common eventualities, because there’s a whole lot more which I would have added to our bags had we not been carrying them thousands of miles.
My reflection for this today is when do my decisions come out of fear and when do I need to pause and rethink this?
This trip is already giving me food for thought!

PS When trying to settle two tired children into new accommodation my fluffy blanket and Netflix plan was thwarted by my Netflix telling me my subscription doesn’t work in this region. Aghhhh! Neither does I player. Fortunately we’d taken out Disney plus at the last minute. I’m not a big fan of relying on TV, but getting cosy with something to watch could be a crucial part of decompressing for us all on this trip.
